A great way to raise money for Room to Read & something anyone can do anywhere!

Beers for Books is a really simple idea to raise money for childhood literacy in developing countries. Beer-drinkers (and other fun people) everywhere are having a blast with the idea while creating books for kids that have limited access to educational resources.

Breaking News...On June 30th we flew through the 70,000 book milestone with events in 4 cities in 3 countries--Tokyo, Sydney, Los Angeles, and St. Paul, MN! I'm not sure where the 70,000th book got created as we pretty much had something going on over a 12 hour period and good fun was had by all. 100,000 here we come!

Results Update: In addition to passing the 70K milestone on the 30th, we also welcomed Canada to the Beers for Books family with three events in June with 306 books created in Montreal, 905 in Edmonton, and 260 in Vancouver. We also created 436 at the Twin Cities debut, 543 Cambodian books at Benny's in Yokohama, 230 from Beats for Books Vol. 2 in Tokyo, 210 from Dublin Bay in Osaka, 100 from Mashable's Social Media Day on June 30th, 793 at the 2nd Annual Canyons.jp B4B BBQ & Whitewater Rafting/Canyoning in Minakami event on July 3rd, and 368 from Mattari in Fujisawa July 9th. Great job everyone!

Since starting in February '09, the Beers for Books concept has been growing and spreading beyond Tokyo and the pace is accelerating. We hit 40K in early March and hit 50K in early April, 60K in May, and now 70K in June. B4B is something that anyone can do anywhere, so we've got lots of room left to grow if you get involved.

THANK YOU to all the thousands of great people who have made this happen in so many ways--organizing, promoting, supporting, encouraging, and just making it all fun and simple.
