One Beer, One Book

Welcome to Beers for Books

A great way to raise money for Room to Read & something anyone can do anywhere!

Beers for Books is a really simple idea to raise money for childhood literacy in developing countries. Beer-drinkers (and other fun people) everywhere are having a blast with the idea while creating books for kids that have limited access to educational resources.

BIG EVENT IN TOKYO March 3rd: Great fun! 600+ attended w/6,000+ books created. Thanks to everyone for all your support. Very special thanks to the guys at 148Hiroo (Marcus & Lyle), Happo-en, Kudos, Kong, Paulette, Paul, Yuka, Ran, Misato, Dan, Yuge-san, all the volunteers & prize donors, and everyone from the Room to Read Tokyo Chapter. What a night...For all the details, see:

GOOD NEWS UPDATE: We welcome Australia to the Beers for Books family as the 3rd country to host a B4B event! The Sydney Chapter of Room to Read has boldly blazed the trail andhad a fully-booked event on Wednesday, February 17th. We hope this is the first of many events Down Under creating books for kids--good on you!

The B4B @ The Local Taphouse in Sydney 2/17 created 1,719 books and the one at IROHA in Fujisawa 2/19 created 344. That puts us over the 38,000 book mark and just a few more books until we hit 40,000!!

Since starting in February '09, the Beers for Books concept has been growing and spreading beyond Tokyo and the pace is accelerating. We hit 10K in mid-August and 20K on October 1, and 30K December 12 just by hanging out and having a good time with cool people. THANK YOU to everyone who is making this happen!

Coming Up: We're planning tons of fun events for 2010 including 3/13 and 3/21 in Tokyo, 3/8 in San Francisco, 3/20 in Minakami, 3/20 in Yakushima, 3/26 in Yokohama, and 3/23 and 4/18 in San Diego. We're also working on putting together B4B launches in Edmonton, Portland, Boston, Vancouver, Dallas, Singapore, and Seoul! Check the events section for more details, tell all your fun friends, and come on out!

Are YOU ready to organize a B4B event? Check out the Organizer's Manual available in the "Tools" section of this website--you can do it--it is simple and fun.

The 47 Japan Prefecture and the US 50 State Challenge
